Calculate PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and Housing Levy contributions using applicable statutory rates and deductions in Kenya. Our calculators provide useful estimates for employees, employers and payroll professionals.
A PAYE (Pay As You Earn) Calculator helps employees and employers in Kenya determine the amount of income tax to be deducted from an employee's monthly salary as per the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) guidelines.
The calculator automatically applies the prevailing tax rates, personal relief and other applicable statutory deductions such as NSSF, SHIF and Housing Levy to provide an estimated take-home pay.
| Monthly Taxable Income | Tax Rate |
|---|---|
| First KES 24,000 | 10% |
| Next KES 8,333 | 25% |
| Next KES 467,667 | 30% |
| Next KES 300,000 | 32.5% |
| Above KES 800,000 | 35% |
The monthly personal relief is KES 2,400 for a qualifying individual.
National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Calculator helps employees and employers determine their monthly pension contributions under the NSSF Act, 2013 (Tier I & II).
The fund promotes long-term savings for retirement and provides a structured social security framework for employees in Kenya.
| Tier | Income | Rate | Maximum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Up to 7,000 | 6% | KES 420 |
| Tier 2 | 7,001 - 36,000 | 6% | KES 1,740 |
| Tier | Income | Rate | Maximum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Up to 8,000 | 6% | KES 480 |
| Tier 2 | 8,001 - 72,000 | 6% | KES 3,840 |
| Tier | Income | Rate | Maximum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Up to 9,000 | 6% | KES 540 |
| Tier 2 | 9,001 - 108,000 | 6% | KES 5,940 |
NSSF deductions are treated as pension contributions for payroll and tax purposes, subject to the applicable statutory limits.
Voluntary contributors may opt for flexible contribution amounts outside formal employment.
Calculator results are estimates. Refer to official NSSF guidelines or contribution statements for precise deductions.
Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) is Kenya's national health insurance scheme under the Social Health Authority (SHA), replacing NHIF as part of the Universal Health Coverage reforms.
For employees, the employer deducts the applicable SHIF contribution from the employee's earnings and remits it through the applicable government systems.
| Gross Monthly Income | SHIF Contribution |
|---|---|
| KES 0 - KES 5,999 | Minimum applicable contribution |
| KES 6,000 and above | 2.75% of gross salary |
The SHIF contribution is calculated as a percentage of gross income, subject to the applicable minimum contribution.
The calculator provides an estimate based on the gross monthly income entered.
The Housing Levy is a mandatory statutory contribution in Kenya introduced to support the Affordable Housing Programme.
The levy is calculated on gross monthly income. An employee contribution is deducted from the employee while the employer makes a matching contribution.
| Contribution | Rate |
|---|---|
| Employee Contribution | 1.5% of Gross Pay |
| Employer Contribution | 1.5% of Gross Pay |
The Housing Levy is calculated at 1.5% of gross monthly salary for the employee, with a matching 1.5% employer contribution, subject to the applicable legislation and prevailing requirements.
